Disclaimers Which Should Appear on School Web Pages

ALL district, school and class websites must be housed on a FCPS server. We have absolutely no control over a website, which is housed on an outside server. There are daily occurrences of websites being taken over and replaced with inappropriate material. Therefore, we attempt to limit that possibility by housing all our websites on our own servers, over which we have full control.

ANY WEBSITE which might appear to be part of Fayette County Public Schools, but is located someplace other than on the school website and is maintained by someone other than the school webmaster should include a disclaimer. For example, the alumni association or the booster club of a school may ask to have their website linked from the school website.

Example of a website which might require a disclaimer:  Any School has a link on its homepage, called Alumni; however, the link leads to http://www.webhost.com/anyschool (a web page not located on Any School's web) rather than to http://www.anyschool.fcps.net/alumni, the school website.

Use the following disclaimers:

Post this disclaimer on the FCPS site:

This link leads to a website which is not controlled by this school or the Fayette County Public Schools. We are not responsible for the content.

Have the webmaster of the linked website post this disclaimer prominently on his site:

This site is not an official site of the Fayette County Public Schools.

***  This policy is crucial and failure to comply could have serious legal consequences for the district.  Therefore, this policy will be strictly enforced by district staff.

Additionally, ANY WEBSITE which might appear to be part of Fayette County Public Schools, but is located someplace other than on the school website and is maintained by someone other than the school webmaster MUST follow these guidelines:

  • The web pages should include a link back to the school website.

  • There must be NO content within the DOMAIN of the website that would be objectionable for a school/educational website.  Note: the domain is the web host.  Example: www.webhost.com is the domain for the website www.webhost.com/anyschool.

  • The DOMAIN of the website must not include any links to other websites that would be objectionable for a school/educational website.
