A Tour of Eastern Europe

A WebQuest for the Students of Ms. Lindsey

 at LMST

Introduction

In this project you will use the Internet as a resource to locate information on a particular country in Eastern Europe. Learning how to appropriately use the Internet as a research tool and to present your research to the class is an important part of your learning goals. By combining this with your study of Eastern Europe, you will truly benefit and improve your learning.

Task

Each student is to select a country in Eastern Europe and use the Internet sites listed in the resources below to gather useful information about their country. You will use the worksheet that accompanies this webquest to organize your notes, and then you will create a PowerPoint presentation which you will share with the rest of the class.

Resources

Factbook of Most Nations - the factbook is one of the best source to find the basic information about your country

Encarta and Britannica Encyclopedias - this link will take you to the Fayette County Intranet page. You will find the links to these encyclopedia in the upper right corner of the page

Kidport to Nations of the World - another good source of basic facts

Statistics of United Nations Countries - tell the computer what information you are looking for and it will locate the facts - basic information, but fun to use!

Worldwide Holiday & Festival Site - need a little culture? go here!

A Great Site to Find Flags - yes, it's a great place to find flags

A list of countries - this site leads you to many more sites that relate to your country - not all of them are guaranteed to be reliable, so use good judgment

Process

Look over your worksheet so that you are familiar with all the information you need to locate. Remember: the resources will not give information in the same order as your worksheet.

Click on the resources listed above starting at the top and working your way down. Collect as much information as you can. Take note of interesting facts even if it is not on the worksheet.

To capture flags or other pictures to make your PowerPoint presentation more interesting and enjoyable, right click on the object and save it to a diskette. Be sure to give proper credit in your presentation when you use pictures or information from your resources.

Click here to see how to cite your Internet resources.

Teacher Tips

When you get into a site you will often have to go further in to get your information. Always use the Back arrow in the upper left corner to back out of the site and get back to the WebQuest.

Evaluation

This project will count as a major test grade. You will be graded on your effort, your serious approach to this project, the notes you collect and your final report.

Conclusion

As learners we must take advantage of many different resources. Not everything on the Internet is reliable - just as not everything you read in the newspaper is true. You must learn to use your own judgment, compare several different sources to see if they are reporting the same information and consider the reputation of the source.
