A Visit to Africa

A WebQuest for the Students of Ms. Chandler

at Jessie Clark Middle School

Introduction

By studying other nations and their people and cultures, we can learn how to better appreciate people who are different from ourselves.

Task

Each student will research a particular country in Africa. As you complete your research, you will prepare nine slides for a PowerPoint presentation. You will present your presentation to the class and learn from your classmates' presentations.

Process

1. Read through your entire worksheet so that you are familiar with the information you need to locate.

2. Visit the resources above to collect the information for the worksheet and which will go on the slides for your PowerPoint Presentation.

3. When your worksheet is complete, go into PowerPoint. Choose the title slide first. Put the name of your country as the title. For the subtitle, put: Researched by (your name). Continue with the eight remaining slides.

4. Your Religion slide must contain a Pie Graph created with an Excel Spreadsheet that shows the percentages of the different religions in your assigned country. Click here if you need directions on how to create a Pie Graph.

Teacher Tips

Be sure to read the entire worksheet first because you won't find the information in the same order as the questions on the worksheet.

After you have visited one of the resources above, leave it by clicking on the BACK button until it brings you back to this webquest.

Be sure to complete all the worksheet before going into PowerPoint.

Evaluation

Conclusion

By understanding that people have backgrounds quite different from our own, we can hopefully understand why not everyone acts and behaves just like us. This is important so that we can all learn to get along with each other.
