Welcome to the

Ber     Wall        lin

A WebQuest Prepared for the

Students at Morton Middle School

Introduction

"Let them come to Berlin!" What is the meaning of these words? Who invited them? What was the challenge? As you visit the Berlin Wall consider why it was built, why it was allowed to stand for so long, and why it finally came down.

Task

Your task is to learn about the history of the Berlin Wall. As you gather information, complete the Berlin Wall Worksheet.

Teacher Tips

Most of the feelings surrounding this historical structure are summarized well in the pictures. Study the photographs carefully and identify the message of the photographer.

Evaluation

This project is worth one-fifth of your project grade. Do a good job!

Conclusion

It is difficult for us to imagine a lack of freedom, the inability to travel across town to visit friends and relatives. Imagine a wall built across our city and imagine you were on the "wrong side" - no money, little food, soldiers in the streets. Would the rest of the world sit by and allow this to happen to you? Would you be shot to death because you wanted out? Is it possible for this to happen in this century? What do we learn from History?
