How
May I Help You?
Typing isn't just for high school any more! It's a
heavy burden, but FCPS elementary teachers are
TOTALLY responsible for teaching keyboarding to FCPS
students. Most FCPS students ONLY receive
keyboarding instruction in elementary school. I know
of one middle school that does keyboarding for low
students only!
Learning to keyboard is like learning to read or
multiply. Students MUST practice regularly to
achieve any type of success. Now elementary teachers
already have enough to do without adding
keyboarding!!!! But the good news is that once the
students can keyboard, you will spend far less time with
writing portfolios and other typed projects. Even
more good news: once the students learn the letters of the
Alphabet on the keyboard, there is an abundance of
spelling, literacy, writing, social studies, and science
activities that can be done on the computer or
AlphaSmarts. Consequently, keyboarding practice can
actually be following the curriculum, map!
If you
would like help with keyboarding instruction, games,
follow-up activities, and lesson plans across the curriculum,
just send me an email or touch base with me. I'd be
delighted to help you!

K
TO ?: You loved "Learn to Read" from
Starfall, but did you know they have some seasonal stories
for Thanksgiving, Halloween, Winter, Spring, and other
stories? While this site is geared toward K/1 & 2, I have
seen is successfully used with struggling readers in 4th
grade. Don't forget to order the free materials!

TECH
TIP
Give Your Computers a Break
Did you know computers NEED to be shut down regularly?
Heavily used computers that visit many websites or show
video need to be shut down daily. Lightly used
computers should be shut down at least twice a
week. Why? 1. Your computer has to
be shut down to recycle Random Access Memory (RAM). A
computer can only do so much remembering without a rest --
don't you? 2. In today's technology, all school
computers are connected to the "Active Directory"
in Frankfort, and cannot receive up-dates of programs and
fixes unless they are shut down and rebooted. So
pamper your computers and they will run better for you!
