Congratulations Yates STLP!

Fayette County's latest issue of TIPS (Technology Integration Promotes Success) has a wonderful feature on the Yates STLP.  Beth Drake and Cathy Meccariello are the program sponsors.

Tech Tip

Making Your Computers
"Kid Friendly"

Is Times New Roman your favorite font?  I doubt it!  Can your students easily read 12 pt. Times New Roman on your student computers?  It is very easy to change the font to something more "kid friendly", or even something you just enjoy for your own computer.

In Microsoft Word go to the menu bar at the top.

1.  Click on "Format" and then click on "Font."

2.  Under "Font" select a more "kid friendly" font for student computers (Century Gothic is super for Primary grades), or something you enjoy for your teacher computer (Arial is a favorite).

3.  Under "Font Style" I would recommend bold for student work, but not for teachers.

4.  Under "Size" you will want to select a size that is developmentally appropriate for your students.  Generally the younger they are, the larger the font should be.  Fonts for adult use should not be much larger than 12 pt.

5.  At the lower left hand corner of the font dialogue box, click on "Default."  From this point forward, all of your Word documents will be in this font.

This is great for writing and spelling activities.  Even the young ones can easily write words and simple sentences.
