Rave Reviews

We're hearing rave reviews from the Computer Lab instructors, many 4th grade teachers, and parents!  People are seeing a tremendous difference between students who have had Success With Keyboarding and those who have had other keyboarding programs.  As a school district we have found that for optimal  keyboarding mastery, the 10 day Success With Keyboarding program followed with occasional follow up or use of other keyboarding programs, gets the best results.

Attention 2nd to 5th grade teachers:  If you have not yet scheduled your class for Success With Keyboarding, contact me or your STC.  We may need to schedule your class around 4th grade, as many teachers are using the AlphaSmarts for portfolios.

How Success With Keyboarding Works

TEN DAYS!  How can 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders learn the keyboard in 10 days when it took you an entire semester in high school?  Well actually, the kids learn the whole alphabet the first week!

Start by scheduling the use of the AlphaSmarts with your STC.  Generally, 2 classes can share the cart back and forth with some ease.  I'll be glad to model the lessons for you the first two days, and help with your questions and problems as time goes on.  I LOVE teaching keyboarding, and I just wish I could spend more time with each class, but that isn't how a TRT schedule works!

To keep your keyboarders in tip-top condition, it's important to review on an occasional basis.  Would you teach your students multiplication for two weeks, ignore multiplication for months, then give a test on multiplication?  I'd be glad to do a review lesson for you, or you can use UltraKey to REVIEW in the lab.  If you are wondering if you should teach keyboarding with UltraKey, just ask your Computer Lab instructor for an opinion!

Time to "Fall Back"

Remember to change your clocks this Saturday night!  Won't it be nice to start the school day in the daylight?  By the way, you won't have to change the time on your computer....  it will do it for you!

Web Sites of the Week

ON-LINE, LIVE HOMEWORK HELP
http://www.lexpublib.org

Wow!  I saw a preview of this at the STC meeting last night, and it is incredible!  All you need is a Lexington Public Library card to use this FREE service. This is available starting at 4:00 in the afternoon, so kids can't really use it at school.  While the Homework Help says it is for 4th grade on up, it doesn't really know if you are a second grader or a teacher!  For FCPS staff, living outside of Fayette County, who would like to use this for your own children... yes, you can get a Lexington Public Library card.  They are available to anyone who works or lives in Fayette County!

ALL GRADES:  This is an important site to bookmark/save in favorites!  Although geared for a parent audience, it has great information teachers need to share with our students.... and our own children as well!

Every dollar helps.

ADULTS:  I do not  generally send out sites like this, but October is the pink ribbon month!  If you go to the Cigna web site and click on the pink ribbon, Cigna will donate $1.00 to fight breast cancer. Only good the month of October - pass it on!
