Links Tool Bar

In Internet Explorer you have a Links Tool Bar (it begins with the word Link). The tool bar is a great place to store sites that you frequently visit so you don't have to open your Favorites Folder.  It quickly lets you go to your site with one click.

If you don't see the Links bar go to View, Tool Bars and make sure Links is checked.  If it is checked and you don't see the Links bar then  try dragging the links tool bar down so you can see the complete bar.  Do that by setting you cursor on the line under the last tool bar until the cursor changes to a double arrow.  Then click and drag down until the Links bar appears.

Now that you have found the links bar you can customize it to suit your needs.  One way to do this is to right click on a site already on the Links bar that you don't use and delete.  To add sites, go to the site.  Next, click in the address bar to highlight the address.  Click on the blue e icon at the beginning of the address and drag down to the tool bar until the NO symbol disappears and you see a [ symbol.   Many thanks to Joy Buckingham for these directions.

Another way to add to your Links is through Favorites.  When you are on the web page that you want to add to your links, click on Favorites.  When the Favorites List appears on the left side of your screen, click on Add.  A box will appear with a list of folders.  You will need to select Links, then click OK.

NOTE:  I also get a lot of requests to help with Favorites.  Some people want to organize them, others need help creating them.  It takes just a very short amount of time to help you with Favorites, and we can get together at your convenience.  Some folks prefer before or after school, others like to work during planning or lunch.  Regardless, my time is yours and I'm always glad to help in any way!

Using Jeopardy for Review

One of the most popular classes I teach is Jeopardy using PowerPoint.  You do not have to know how to use PowerPoint to use Jeopardy because we have templates and a wide variety of teacher-made games available.  This game is a wonderful way to review any subject, from Kindergarten on up!  The students LOVE it!

I will be teaching this Professional Development at Ambrose on Thursday, October 24th from 4:30PM - 6:00PM.  To sign up for this course, or other Professional Development Offerings at FCPS, click on:

Inspiration has just released version 7.  If you have version 6, I have information on up-grading to version 7 for a cost of $ 7.70

Did you ever wonder where to locate the "Any" key?

P.S. There really isn't an "Any" key!

Web Sites of the Week

COLONIAL AMERICAN ARCHIVES
http://earlyamerica.com/series.html

INTERMEDIATE:  WOW!     What an incredible collection of mini movies about colonial America.  And how convenient to have them at the tip of you fingers and on your computer!  This would work best on a newer computer and requires Flash.   I would not recommend this in a lab setting because it requires so much that it would bog down all the computers.  This would work well on one computer and could be shown with a projector or AverKey.  This could also work as a center or activity for a small group of students.  Plan a few minutes of teaching time before each movie because it does take a couple of minutes to load the movies.  Many thanks to District Technology Resource Teacher, Leanna Prater, for sharing this site!

BEGINNER BOOKS FROM READING A-Z
http://www.readinga-z.com

Pre-K, K, and Early Primary:  This site was passed about at some of the schools a couple of weeks ago.  There are 30 something wonderful, FREE beginning reader books which can be printed, copied, and given to students.  Students can color the books and even take them home.   For those children who do not have books at home, this is a great way to build a home library.  Printing costs lots of $, so you may want to collaborate with others to print these books.  At Harrison, Rita Dobson printed the books so that teachers can go to her for masters to make copies on the copier.

CONGRATULATIONS, RUBY YESSIN!
