How May I Help You?

Is there a piece of software you want to learn how to use?  Did you hear about a technology idea you want to try, but you don't know where to start?  Is there a program you have been using for a while, but you want to take it to a higher level?   I can meet with you individually to help you reach your goals.   Depending upon what you want to learn, we may just need a few minutes before or after school together.  Other times, we may want to meet during part of your planning time.  Just send me an email, and set up a time so I can help you reach your goals!

How May I Help You!

Is It Time for a New Classroom Responsibility?

Do you have a line leader, paper passer, materials handler, errand runner, plant waterer, door holder, board eraser, or other student jobs in your classroom?  It's time to add "Computer Monitor" or "Virus Protector" to your responsibility chart or bulletin board.  In FCPS, as soon as we get notice of an update in our Trend virus protection, we need to check our Trend icon for the correct pattern number, or we need to shut down and restart our computers.  As busy teachers, it is hard to take time out of our teaching to check for pattern numbers or shut down reboot classroom computers,  BUT IT MUST BE DONE AND QUICKLY!!!!!!  Student helpers can be delegated to take care of this important matter.  Even Kindergarteners can be taught how to look for numbers or to properly shut down a computer and restart it.  So make that important addition to your classroom today.

THIRD GRADE AND UP:  This Kentucky
Virtual Library site is a MUST for upper primary and intermediate students.  It is a great way to teach students about how to do research and a wide variety of resources. There are interactive examples with each subject area.  I recommend it as a teacher lead lesson and perhaps followed with individual exploration in the lab or at centers.  I have shared this site in previous newsletters, but I am repeating the information because this makes a wonderful foundation for doing research!

2ND GRADE AND UP: Are you looking for an exciting way to teach friendly or business letters?  Then you will love this site!  This can be used in a large group or individual instruction.  The site also lets you select a border to make letters more artistically attractive!  Thanks to Melba Leach, Microcomputer Specialist at Arlington, for sharing this site!

K-2: This is another great lesson from the Read, Write and Think people.  Includes a wonderful writing lesson, information on brain research,  and an online phonics activity.

Kidspiration

I am teaching a 1 1/2 hour P.D. on Kidspiration at the Ambrose Lab on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 4:00-5:30.
