Up Coming PET Projects
Don't know what the PET Project is?
Here's a description from the website. http://teach.fcps.net/pet/
Do you need extra planning time? Do you need
to know more about using technology in your classroom? Do you need
someone to show you how? Do you feel like you’re being
"hounded" by an urgent need to join the technology
generation? If you answered "yes" to any of the above,
then the PET Project is for you!
The PET Project has been established to assist
classroom teachers in developing standards-based instructional units
that integrate technology. Teachers in Fayette County Public Schools
come as a team to work with curriculum and technology resource
teachers to develop these units. These same resource teachers will
assist the teachers with the implementation of the unit.
The application for this year's PET Project is
now online
http://teach.fcps.net/pet/
summerapplication.htm.
The dates are August 11-12 for
elementary or secondary teams
The deadline to apply is May 16.
If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me.
Data from the last two years show the project
to be highly successful for schools that participated! For example,
we found that schools that show the most improvement on CATS were
more than twice as likely to participate in PET last year. We will
continue to make a strong emphasis on literacy during the project.
Elaine
Harrison, STLP Coordinator for KDE, recently paid a visit to see
the program at Yates. Beth Drake and Cathy Meccariello coordinate
the program at the school.

Great Ideas
& News From
Around the Schools
Beverly Jo Baker (Arts & Humanities at Harrison)
has created extensive web pages chronicling the activities in her
class this year. She says her students are always asking
"Did I get my picture on the Web this time?" Since
some of her students do not have computers at home, Beverly prints
her web pages in color, laminates them, and posts her web pages in
the hall for all to see. Each time she adds a new page to her
web site, she also adds it to her display in the hall. Shirley
Gudgell (1st grade - Lansdowne) makes every teaching moment count
in her classroom. One student comes to school early for
additional phonics reinforcement on the computer. Buddy
Reading has taken on new meaning! Pat Nicholson's class
(5th-Yates) works with Kim Johnson's first grade, and Lisa
Saunders' class (5th-Yates), helps 1st graders in Mindi Huff's
class to read Accelerated Reader books
and take the A.R. tests in the lab. Shannon Reh's class (5th-Harrison) is
helping Lisa Dartt's Kindergarteners to read A.R. books and take
the tests in the computer lab. STLP
members are on the go at Lansdowne. Under the direction of
Annette Moore and Boyd Huffman, STLP photographs and video tapes
all the events at school.
