Are You Ready for the Next Generation State-Wide Testing?

Did you ever think our tests would include technology skills?  Plans for the 2006 tests include assessment of student technology skills.  At this point, the skills that will be covered are still in the development stages.  Students who have a strong background in keyboarding, and who have been working with the Fayette County Technology Standards, should do well on any technology test.

Many thanks to Candy Zaluski (Media Specialist at Lansdowne) for alerting me to this up-coming addition to the tests.  If you would like more help in developing your students' technology skills, just let me know!

Our thoughts are with the family of Kayla, and the staff and students of Yates Elementary.

Web Sites of the Week

SCHOOLS ON-LINE
(THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS EXTENSION)

SchoolsOnline/index.html

Grades K-5 and Teachers:  Wow!  What a site.  A few weeks ago I sent you an email about a site Rita Dobson (STC at Harrison) found called the "Guide to Getting Along."  It does an incredible job of examining relationships and helping students solve people problems.   It actually is one site within this U of Illinois site. And now, thanks to Bev Thompson (3rd Grade at Lansdowne), I have found out that this site offers a whole lot more!  There are great sites on Insects, trees, worms, character education, and much, much more.  Bev Thompson treated her class to the site called "The Great Plant Escape."  She divided her students into workgroups of 3 to act as detectives in this exciting adventure.  To assist special education students with reading, Bev grouped her special education students with regular education students as they participated in the mystery.

ON-LINE SPELLING TESTS
http://eslus.com/LESSONS/SPELL/SPELL.HTM

GRADES 1-5:  This is a great center or lab activity to help students recognize misspelled words.  It would also help students prepare for peer editing.  Students select the correctly spelled word from the misspelled one in an online test.
