GREAT WALL OF CHINA

One of the greatest construction projects ever built was The Great Wall of China. It extends over 4,000 miles across the northern side of China . It is so big that it is the only man made structure that can be seen from space with out a telescope.
The main purpose of the Great Wall of China was to keep out invaders from the north. The Emperor ordered over one million people to build the Great Wall of China. Many died from efforts and were thrown into the foundations of the next section of the wall.
The wall is built of earth and stone, faced with brick in the eastern part. It is from 15 to 30ft thick on the base. The Great Wall is one of the 7 wonders of the world.
