Tech Tips - Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) in Email

Using the BCC feature of email is very useful when you need to send an email to a person or group of people without sharing their email addresses with others.  For example, this is useful when you are emailing class news out to parents, but you don't want all of the parents' email addresses showing for everyone to see. Put them all in the BCC field. Here's how:

  • Open the message that you want to send.
  • Look for the Options button on the toolbar.
  • Click on down arrow next to the word Options and select BCC.
  • Then type the name or address of the recipients in the BCC field.

Question....  If someone clicks on Reply All, will they be able to see who received the initial email?

No.  I use this method when sending this newsletter.  Although it wouldn't matter if everyone saw the other email addresses this also prevents a recipient from accidentally sending a reply to everyone receiving the email.  In this case, if you click on Reply All, I'm the only one who gets the email message because I sent the email.
