Tech Tips - Using the Comment Feature in Word

Using the comment feature is a great way to give students feedback on their writing without having to print a new copy each time. Simply...

• Click in the document where you wish to make a comment
• Then click on Insert, and Comment
• Type your comment in the box.
• Save the piece once all the comments are inserted.

The student will then be able to see your comments the next time they open the piece without any changes actually being made to the piece. Students can delete the comments once they make the necessary changes.

The comment feature is a great way to help students improve portfolio pieces.  You can pinpoint errors where they occur or at the end of the line, and even tell them the type of problem (ex: spelling, punctuation).  You just can't make the change for the student.

• Newspaper Press - this interactive from the ARTSEDGE (Marco-Polo) website allows students to create a newspaper with multiple pages to print out.  Newspaper can not be saved, so work should be typed in Word first.

• Zoo Matchmaker - an online simulation for 7-12th grade students on the topic of how zoos help save endangered species (small population genetics in zoos).
