TLW use the pattern block site to create patterns after discussing patterns found in pictures of things around us.

Assess: The student completes a variety of samples without help.

Enrichment: Find other pictures on the Internet of things around us that have patterns.

 

Lesson K11

RD-E-1.0.6   (Begin to) Explain the meaning of a passage, presented orally, taken from texts appropriate for elementary school students.

TLW listen to modern day versions of Mother Goose Poems (cartoons) then in pairs, whole class or individually repeat the rhyme as the song is played (via projector).

Assess: Student attempts or completes the task.

Enrichment: Using the Favourite Nursery rhyme site listen to the music and identify the rhyme. (Have music playing from this site as students come into the lab.)

Open Response: When you are at home there are some jobs that you need to do where you must sort things.

Draw a picture with the Paint program of 2 things you might have to sort at home and show how they can be sorted.

TLW Skip count forward and backward by creating a chart showing odd and evening numbers using an interactive 100 chart.

Assess: The student completes task without help.

Enrichment: Create a chart showing skip counting and tell when you might need to use that pattern of counting.

TLW use Inspiration to arrange a given set of numbers in correct order as directed.

MA-E-4.3.2 How rules involving number patterns can be explained

 

TLW use the Interactive 100 chart to skip count each number from 1-10 using a different color for each number and determine how many numbers between 1-100 are not used by any number pattern.

Assess: The student will complete the task successfully.

Enrichment: If you skip by the white numbers will how many will still be left white.   

Lesson ½ - 9

Open Response:  Create a number chart to 100 then color the even numbers red, then skip count by 3 coloring those yellow. 

   Compare and Contrast the numbers colored for the even numbers and the 3s.

TLW follow given directions from Lesson 3 and part of 4, “Success with Keyboarding” o-u.

 

Lesson 12

TLW follow given directions from part of lesson 4 & 5, “Success with Keyboarding” v-z.

TLW use the Program “Ultra Keyboard” for assessment during following weeks.

Follow up:  TLW use the “Ultra Keyboard” program for 10 minutes at the beginning of each lab session.

Digital Poetry

TLW in whole class will analyze a model poem written about the experience of viewing the hardships of Hurricane Katrina victims noting phrases that express feelings and emotions then brainstorm phrases while viewing pictures about Hurricane Katrina.

Lesson 10

TLW work in teams of 2 and use a graphic organizer to list descriptive phrases provoked from viewing a set of given pictures after viewing teacher’s model of the same activity.

Lesson 11

TLW use a graphic organizer to arrange phrases in a logic order after viewing a teacher’s model of the same activity. 

Lesson 12

TLW combine their phrases and pictures and create a digital poem using Movie Maker.

 

On demand: Some people think the government should spend money to rebuild New Orleans and some do not.  Write the President of the United States a letter explaining your belief.  Provide at least 3 reasons with illustrations for your belief to convince him what should be done. 

5th grade

TLW create the largest possible number with a random set of given numbers in the Place Value game.

 TLW use searching tips and Boolean language to search for statements online using numbers between numbers 0 to 100,000,000 after brainstorming as a class where some numbers might be used.

Open response:  Go to www.50states.com and find 5 states with a higher population than Ky and 5 states with a lower population.  What states have a population close to the same as KY.?  List these 11 states in order from the most populated to the least.
