Flip words

1.     For words that have 3 letters and a silent e such as cap – cape make a 1 X 5 table.

2.     Type the 3 letter word in the first 3 cells.  Print.

3.     Put the paper back in the printer so that it will print on the reverse side.

4.     Do not delete the table, but delete the 3 letters.  Type “e” in the first box. (Not deleting the table assures that it will print at the same location on the sheet therefore making it print on the back of the table already printed.)

5.     Now cut out one of the tables and see if the e will flip over to make a “long vowel word.

I know this doesn’t seem like it will work.  It takes a little mind twisting to understand how this will print.

On the following sheet I have made a whole page of 1 X 5 tables for you.  Just fill in the letters and print.  Put the sheet back in the printer so it will print on the back side, delete the letters and type e in the first box..

Hint:  When you want to print please go to File, print and choose “current” page so instruction sheet won’t print. Make sure your cursor was last seen on the current page to be printed.

Hint:  Drag and highlight all of the letters then hit the delete button to quickly clear out all letters.  Or take your mouse slowly  to the upper left corner and look for a cross which you will click on.  This automatically highlights entire table and allows you to delete whatever is in the table.  You can’t delete the table unless you go to “table” on the toolbar and select table.
