Links Tool Bar

In Internet Explorer you have a Links Tool Bar (it begins with the word Link). The tool bar is a great place to store sites that you frequently visit so you don't have to open your Favorites Folder.  It quickly lets you go to your site with one click.

If you don't see the Links bar go to View, Tool Bars and make sure Links is checked.  If it is checked and you don't see the Links bar then  try dragging the links tool bar down so you can see the complete bar.  Do that by setting you cursor on the line under the last tool bar until the cursor changes to a double arrow.  Then click and drag down until the Links bar appears.

Now that you have found the links bar you can customize it to suit your needs.  First, right click on a site already on the Links bar that you don't use and delete.  To add sites, go to the site.  Next, click in the address bar to highlight the address.  Click on the blue e icon at the beginning of the address and drag down to the tool bar until the NO symbol disappears and you see a [ symbol.

In Class

Janece Craig's class, Mary Todd, is working on an oceans brochure.  While working on this brochure, this second grade class is learning the copy and paste technique.

Barbara Carter's class at Arlington will be finalizing an ecology unit by creating a planet with a perfect environment as a result of what the aliens do to take care of that environment.

April Abshear's class at Arlington is working in groups creating a Power Point which includes information about an assignment geographical section.

Summer Project for Yourself!!!!

Lexmark and Inspiration Will go Wild

Here's a project you will want to try this summer.  Epson sent me a printer for me to try.  I had this idea in my head for months and just hadn't set down to work with it until last week when I finally hooked up the new printer.

When I take pictures with my regular camera and have them developed, I most always have the pictures put on a disk as well. (about $5).  I inserted a picture into Inspiration and expanded it.  The grid in Inspiration shows me how many sheets of paper the picture will cover.  In print preview I checked to see what part of the picture will print on each sheet so as not to have too many sheets with white space.

I felt like I was putting a quilt together.  After printing the picture on 30 (6X5) sheets of regular printing paper I trimmed each sheet with a rotary cutter on a mat.  Then each sheet was seamed together with acetate tape.

Two sleepless nights later I was walking through Walmart and found a cardboard top to a crate of light bulbs that seemed to match the size of my giant poster picture.  "Ask and ye shall receive."  You should have seen me stuffing this 5 foot by 4 foot piece of card board into my Honda Civic.

Take a look at the results.  For a better perspective on the size of the picture, just realize it is hanging over a double size bed.

Now my brain is going wild.  I then printed a North America and Mexico map from http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/world.htm and had Mrs. Barber's class (Mary Todd) put the maps together like a floor puzzle.  Then she will post them on the wall.

After you've tried this, I'm sure you will think of all kinds of classroom uses not to mention personal uses.

Hey grandmas out there.......get to work!!!

and don't forget to order your ink cartridges for next year.

I've always wondered how to get rid of that pesky document that keeps coming up every time I open word instead of beginning with a standard blank document..  Debbie Watts found the solution.  She actually got the 2000  version solution from Jim Adams.  Here are the solutions:

New Sites

http://www.borrico.com/ The web is often a difficult place for early elementary students to find animal information that is geared for their level.  Now there is the Borrico site that provides information on a wide variety of animals in an interesting and engaging format just right for theses students.  For each animal there are several pictures plus easy to read flashcard facts, a coloring page to print, and a list of additional websites to explore.  The games area has dot-to-dot puzzles and animal sounds exploration areas. (review from Education Planet Newsletter)

Assessment:  A little too late but remember for next year.  1999, 2000, 2001 online released TAAS could be some great practice for multiple choice questions.  These are available for third grade and up.  This site is also a great site for integrating technology activities, interactive games, etc. backed by standards which are documented.
