Tech Tip for ESL

While Miah Confer at Dixie was writing a piece in Spanish, she needed to know how to make symbols that don't appear on the keyboard.  Just go to Insert, Symbol.   However, we weren't able to find the Spanish symbols but we did find a site that gave the keyboard  shortcuts that are already made on your computer.

Writing

Do you use writing prompts in your class?  If so, Can Teach is a site that appears to have one for each day of the school year.

New Site

eTheme - the name says it all!

Science

Some good ole game ideas for Science.  Use  your  MS Office products to help you make these games.  Think about how you can use these games for all the other content areas.

Math

How has Johnson Elementary's Principal Dee Patrick gotten kids so involved in math that teacher's have to make them stop and do their other work?  It's true, if Johnson students get near a computer, they'll be doing math before you know it.  They even have numbers floating around in their heads at night.  To find out what's causing this, check out the McDonald's® First In Math® Online site for more information.

Reading

Quick reference:

Dolch list

Although not technology friendly, the Four Blocks Literacy page does provide lots of ideas, information and resources for all areas of Literacy.

A high level word puzzle page that provides a different game everyday can be found at a place called A Game a Day.  Have fun!!

Digital Storytelling

Naomi Carroll & Michelle Barber's third graders at Mary Todd Elementary have just completed a Digital Story about Ashland.  It's a comparison of Henry Clay's day and how we live today.  After the student's recorded their information, they then wrote their information.  If you are planning a field trip to Ashland, you might want to get a copy to show your class.  You can also take Maggie Wilson's virtual tour of Ashland.

Social Studies

Early Explorers - Extensive list of sites
Bunches of maps and map skills
Wonderful research and card game about early explorers.  Students can research Explorers using the site listed above then create the cards by using this template.
