 Tech Note

In a hurry and need to close several word documents?  Try this:

  1. Hold down SHIFT and click the File menu. When you hold down SHIFT, two new options appear on the File menu: Close All and Save All.
  2. To save all your open documents at once, click Save All. Or, to close all your open documents, click Close All; Word will prompt you to save your changes before closing any documents.

Integration

  • Cory Duty is a new teacher at Arlington.  She has developed a Multiplication Power Point Jeopardy for her students.  She didn't use the template but rather went to the hard work to make hers from scratch.  Way to go Cory.

  • Big 6 is becoming a popular research technique.  Check out their newsletter site for some ways to use Inspiration with Big 6.  This article also reminds us some research about visual learning.

Sites Recommended by Others (Thank-You!)

  • Rosemary McFarland - United States and Capitols practice "really good for review of states and capitals. Allows review 10, 20,30,40 or all states or capitals."  and Note Star  "Once a teacher enrolls a class and sets the parameters, students can do work online. It saves the site URL. Might be good to use with lower grades when we are demonstrating the proper process in citing information and how to take notes."

  • Dayna Lykins - Getting Students Connected "It is divided into grade levels, and has a multitude of activities listed.  Some of them are technology based, some are not, some are interactive, some are just references."  and Gamequarium, "Good site for math practice."

  • Barbara Barr - " The K teachers at Lansdowne are using this a lot. It is really a wonderful site!" (Note this site can be found on the Getting Students Connected  site above.

  • Greg Drake - "There's a link to Live Homework Help from the FCPS homepage, but you'll need to wait until after 4:00 PM to actually see it in operation."  This is a service offered by The Lexington Public Library.

Personal Use

  • Check out some of these ideas for your home PC and printer..  There just might be some ideas you can use for the holidays.  Then, who knows, you just might think of an idea for your classroom?

    • Hewlett Packard Creative Projects-  find ways to use your printer to make decorations.

    • Make a CD Sun Catcher.  Find out how at CraftIdeas.com.

    • Family.com is full of crafts and recipes.  I've used it for students to analyze "How-To" pieces.

    • Here's one of the many sites I have retrieve paper piecing patterns for sewing and quilting ideas.

    • Scrap bookers might be able to use these free backgrounds.

    • Variety of Computer Craft projects including fabric transfers and making gift boxes (geometry?).

    • All Recipes you ever wanted. (measurement, chemistry?)

    • Do you like Starbucks Gingerbread latte?  Try the Top Secrets Recipe site.  Also Copy Kat has some of those restaurant favorites (beware of tons of pop ups)..

    • Trying to be a handy man around the house.  Use the Handyman Dictionary.

    • Have you checked out the HGTV site for the rest of the story?

Literary Book Club

Is Now Open !!!!!

Big Thanks to Mike Johnson for creating this Very Useful website for Fayette County Public Schools..  Hope you register soon and have your students submitting ideas and opinions about the books they read.

Writing

  • Theresa Naylor at Johnson Elementary came up with this unusual idea as she was scanning the Internet Tools for Literacy First .  Using Seussville Story Maker (click on the Playground marker)  found at Seussville her fifth grade students can make a guessing book by including hints for a type of rock so that third grade students reading the book can make a guess before the story character makes the guess.
