 Tech Note

      This is an old one but occasionally I still come across a computer that does not show the most updated web page.  Refresh your page to see if it changes.  If it did, you may need to change your options.  To do so go to Tools, Internet Options, then in the Temporary Internet files box choose settings, then either choose "every visit" or "automatically".  

Integration

• Kindergarten teacher Shawn Mink at Mary Todd Elementary needed a small pumpkin black line master for his students to create a class pictograph showing how they decorated their pumpkins.  He wanted to change this to this  .  Go to Blackline Masters from Clipart under "Computer How-Tos". 

Sites Recommended by Others (Thank-You!)

• Leanna Prater- Snaith Elementary....too much too describe.  Just take a look for yourself.   Also Leanna found eduweb.  She says, "This site has a list of links that include many interesting things, like a mock trial in colonial America, create an on-line play, and lots of other stuff."  

• Kim Overstreet - Getsmarter.org is an animated, interactived testing and learning site that allows students to compare their math and science skills to other students around the world.

• Melba Leach - Little Finger's Online games and First Schools Thematic Units.  Preschool and kindergarten teachers should be happy to see this site.

Literacy First Idea

• This idea from Lauren VanHook and Marcia Gross at Arlington Elementary. Direct students to enter their spelling or reading vocabulary words into http://www.rhymezone.com/ to find words that rhyme.  Students recorded their work on a worksheet similar to this one. (right click, save target as)

Writing 

• To expand vocabulary for better word choice, description or detail, post this word document on a classroom computer and allow students to visit and type their contributions throughout the day, center time or whatever time suits your class.  You could have several documents (words) up at one time.  Show students how to multi-task between documents using the task tray at the bottom of the screen or by clicking on "windows" at the top of the screen.
