Kindergarten Properties of Objects
SC-E-1.1.1 Objects have many observable
properties such as size, mass, shape, color, temperature, magnetism, and
the ability to react with other substances.
POS-S-P-PS-1 Students will understand that properties (e.g., size, shape) of
materials can be measured and used to describe, separate, or sort
objects. |

First Grade Living/Nonliving/Once Living Animal Groups SC-E-3.1.1 Things in the environment are
classified as living, nonliving, and once living. Living things differ
from nonliving things. Organisms are classified into groups by using
various characteristics (e.g. body coverings, body structures). POS-S-4-LS-3
Students
will understand that organisms have different structures that serve
different functions. These
structures are used to sort organisms into groups. |
Use Kidspiration
to group animals into groups. |

Second Classifying Living
Things SC-E-3.1.1 Things in the environment are
classified as living, nonliving, and once living. Living things differ
from nonliving things. Organisms are classified into groups by using
various characteristics (e.g. body coverings, body structures). POS-S-P-LS-3 Students
will understand that organisms have different structures that serve
different functions. These
structures are used to sort organisms into groups. |

Third Organisms' basic needs
SC-E-3.1.2 Organisms have basic needs.
For example, animals need air, water, and food; plants need air,
water, nutrients, and light. Organisms
can survive only in environments in which their needs can be met. POS-S-4-LS-1
Students
will understand that organisms have basic needs (e.g., air, water,
nutrients, light) and can only survive when these needs are met. |
Webquest
investigating food chains in animal and plant communities. All
of the animals to be researched has at least one working link.
You might want to make your own or have your TRT help you create
a web quest. Food Chain Power

Fourth Classifying Living
Things SC-E-3.1.1 Things in the environment are
classified as living, nonliving, and once living. Living things differ
from nonliving things. Organisms are classified into groups by using
various characteristics (e.g. body coverings, body structures). POS-S-4-LS-3 Students
will understand that organisms have different structures that serve
different functions. These
structures are used to sort organisms into groups. |

Fifth Cells SC-M-3.1.2 All organisms are composed of cells, the fundamental unit of life.
Most organisms are single cell; other organisms, including plants
and animals are multi-cellular. SC-M-3.1.3
Cells
carry on the many functions needed to sustain life.
They grow and divide, thereby producing more cells.
This requires that they take in nutrients, which they use to
provide energy for the work that cells do and to make the materials that
a cell or an organism
needs.
SC-M-3.1.4 Specialized cells perform
specialized functions in multi-cellular organisms.
Groups of specialized cells cooperate to form tissues.
Different tissues are, grouped together to form larger functional
units called organs. Each
type of cell tissue and organ has a distinct structure and set of
functions that serve the organism. POS-S-5-LS-2 Students
will model cells and recognize that cells carry on the functions needed
to sustain life. |
