SS-E-2.1.1 Language, music, art, dress, food, stories, and folktales help define culture and may be shared among various groups.

 Help students to identify Native American art by visiting various web sites and viewing graphics of different genres.

First Grade

Human Needs

POS-SS-P-CS-4 Students will understand how human needs are met through social groups and institutions.

Find out how community helpers meet human needs by completing the webquest.  After viewing the web sites, students are to draw a picture of the community helper they want to be (or like) and tell why they are important. (The teacher will need to read directions to students.)

Second 

(week 14) SS-E-5.2.2 Major historical people and events (i.e. Pilgrims).

Place dates on time line using the Timeliner software.  ( I have 4 copies to loan.)

Third

Levels of government

SS-E-1.2.1 The three levels of government are local, state, and national. (Focus is on local government)

 Use various websites for information.

Fourth 

Culture

SS-E-2.4.1 As cultures emerge and develop, conflict and competition (e.g., disagreements, arguments, stereotypes, prejudice) may occur.

SS-E-5.2.1 Native American cultures, in Kentucky , had similarities (e.g., gender roles, family organization, religion, values) and differences (e.g., language, shelter, tools, foods, and clothing).

Fifth 

SS-E-1.2.2 The 3 branches of government at each level are legislative (propose bills/make laws), executive (carry out or enforce laws), and judicial (interpret laws).

 Webquest:   Add other options i.e. create a web page, use Word Art, graphics and other software to help create the poster, or a digital story using Windows Movie Maker found on the Windows XP computers.
