Dear Students,
It's been a great year. I know after you compared your test scores from the beginning of the year and the end of the year with your parents at your student lead conference, you KNOW you have learned a lot. You can keep on learning this summer without great pain by just noticing what's happening in your environment. Ask a LOT of questions and EXPECT an answer from someone. Keep asking until you get the answer. Now, I don't mean questions like, "Why can't I go to the pool?" but rather something like, "Why does the bee fly faster than a butterfly?" Read every sign you see this summer. If you don't you might miss out on getting something free or a fun event that is about to happen. Of course, I highly recommend that you play the ACE Reading Bingo. If you lost your card that you got at school, just go to our school site and download a new one. Use your summer third grade reading list to make as many "bingos" as you can. If you find yourself bored this summer then check out some web sites for a list of things to do. One you might look at with your parents is a blog called Semicolon. It has a list of 100 things you can do. The things I liked to do when I was a child in the summer was to take a walk after a rain and wade through puddles, put the lawn chairs together and make a tent with a blanket, and make a play house outside under the tree. I spent hours making mud pies with dirt and water. Most of my pies were made of the consistency of clay. After we made mud pies and other make believe foods, my sister and I played restaurant with the "food" we had made. Then, we would jump on our bikes with "motors." We would cut out cards from cereal boxes and use clothes pins to attach the card to the wheels so they would flip through the spokes. The more we had, the louder our motor. Notice, we played with things that cost zero dollars. Finally, have your parents check out the free things your family can do in and around Lexington. Now, what is your excuse NOT to learn this summer. Go do it! Have fun learning!
Your Teacher, Mrs. Buckingham
