Have you checked out United Streaming?  It is a wonderful resource that has been provided for teachers this year in Fayette County!  The site contains videos that you may stream or download for your students.  Many contain links to student activities and teacher's guides.  Check with your STC or Librarian on how to access this resource!
Getting Ready for Winter? The Polar Express is rolling out to theaters this November.  Here is a page of Activities and Lessons to go along with the book.
Techie Tip from Kim Overstreet

Tech Tip #18--Inserting Symbols in Word
Have you ever needed to type a degree symbol after a temperature?  Or needed an accent mark over your e?  Or wanted to type a foreign word with the proper letters that we don't have in our alphabet?
When you are typing in Word, inserting symbols is easy.  There are a couple of ways you can do it:
  • First, when typing the word, stop when you get to the point where you want to insert the symbol or special character
  • Choose Insert from the file menu
  • Then select Symbol.
  • You will see this window pop up:

  • When you click on the character you want, it will show up larger (as shown) so you can see if it's what you need.
  • Then you choose Insert.
  • Close the window and go on typing.
  • Second, if there are characters that you use often, you can use the shortcut keys to type them.
  • Look at the picture above and you will see the shortcut key hint at the bottom.
  • If you want to type a º then you can do that by holding the Alt key in while typing 0186 on the number keypad to the right of your keyboard.

K-12 TEACHERS, INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS AND ABOVE: I have shared this resource before, but this is such a standard resource that it deserves repeating.  For students and teachers as well, this is one of the easiest ways to correctly cite resources.  It's also helpful for citing Internet resources. And for those of you who are in graduate school, it provides APA citations.
