FORUM FAQ'S |
||||||||
| What
is a forum? A forum is a place on the internet where people can discuss topics.
|
||||||||
| Are
forums safe? The forum environment that Fayette County uses is very safe. Teachers can enroll themselves, but no one is admitted into a discussion group without permission from the forum moderator. Students are admitted by the forum administrator and only with teacher approval.

| What
is a forum moderator? A forum moderator is the person who is in charge of that discussion group. They can edit and delete any postings within their discussion. In Fayette County, the moderator is also in charge of monitoring student postings for anything inappropriate.

| Why
are forums better than e-mail?
E-mailing is great when you are writing to one person, or a group of people. It is hard to carry on a lengthy discussion, though using e-mail. Forums allow you to communicate with lots of people easily over a period of time. It also allows for more teacher control since all postings are viewable. You also do not need to worry about who students are talking to since you control the environment.

| What
do I need to have in order to use a forum?
You need to have Internet access and your students need to have a signed AUP form that gives them permission to use the internet. If you have any other questions about on-line forums, please feel free to e-mail our forum administrator, or visit Fayette County's On-Line Forum Page.
