HotSync - Changing the teacher's name to a new name

Several of you have had to assign a new teacher to a Palm Pilot this year.  These were Palms which were used by a different teacher last year.  When you do a HotSync on these, the teacher’s name from last year is still showing up on the HotSync screen as the owner.  As I’ve been working with some of you, we’ve just been ignoring that part as long as the new teacher’s name showed up in DIBELS.  Here’s what you do:

  1. Go to Palm Desktop and make sure the new teacher is in the list of users.  If not, click on “Edit Users” and add them.  Exit Palm Desktop.
  2. Turn on the Palm and select “HotSync”.
  3. Click on the magnifying glass to start the “Find” function.
  4. On the find line, write a cursive lower case L (it will look like the ribbons people have on their cars for supporting our troops, breast cancer awareness, etc.).  Then put a period followed by a 5.
  5. Don’t panic – right after you write it, it disappears!!!  (That’s what it is supposed to do!)
  6. Tap “OK”
  7. Click on your home screen, and then select “HotSync” again.  The name should not be there.  When you do your next sync, it will ask you to identify the user’s name from the list you have in Palm Desktop.
