The purpose of Media Services in keeping with the mission of Fayette County Public Schools is to provide people power, guidelines, and know-how to design excellent school library media programs that will help boost student achievement and to provide quality resources for teachers and staff.

Things Recommended to do this Month

  Use opportunities to celebrate and promote the school library program.
  Check budgets and plan expenditures for this school year:  supplies, magazines, library books, audiovisual  materials, and online services.
  Start data collection and rationale for any foreseen budget needs for next year as expressed on your annual report.

Things Recommended to do this Month

  Spend all library funds possible allocated for this school year by the end of the month. 
  Check in materials from students moving during the holidays.
  Start putting in writing, your needs assessment for next year.  Include concerns identified in LMS annual report, i.e.. clerical staffing, age of collection, collaboration with teachers, etc.
  Consider doing student and teacher surveys to identify other needs for library media program.  Locate surveys to use right after winter break.
  Concentrate on getting in book orders and AV  orders.
  Make plans for "I love to read" day in February.
  If you haven't done much collaboration with a teacher yet, pick out one teacher and get started.

Things Recommended to do this Month

  Finalize book orders and AV orders.  Enter or request to enter orders into MUNIS.  Send order lists to Media Services.  
  Attend to weeding - it is also a collection development tool.
  Alert the principal about equipment needs.
  Finalize all needs assessments for next year.  Be prepared to convey this information to the school planners/SBDM.
  Assign dollar figures to identified needs and get your budget request for next year ready to submit to the budget committee.
  Check current budgets and encumber balances to assure funds will not be lost.
  Communicate plans for "I love to read day" in February.
  Plan to attend Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference.

Things Recommended to do this Month

  Collect all due and overdue books and AV Materials.
  Confer with principal / SBDM council about curriculum, class or grade changes for next year.
  Screen equipment and tag for repairs as needed.
  Stop book circulation to students in time for follow-up, fines, lost payments, etc.
  Continue meeting classes through the last day of school.
  Make plans to attend Librarian's Retirement Luncheon.

  Meet with grade levels or individual teachers to plan for optimum library usage.
  Train library clerks and volunteers.
  Conduct orientation classes for all students if this was not completed in August.

  Conduct orientation PD for teachers new to your school.  Include procedures, services, tour of the LMC, etc.
