Core Content

QUICK - the quality Information Checklist to help you judge the information you find on a web page.
Kathy Schrock Guide includes an excellent collection of K-12 sites organized by subject areas.
Dewy Browse
- K-12 Websites organized by the Dewey Decimal System of Subjects - Chesterfield, New Hampshire school system.
Exploratorium
- a variety of content that highlights what the museum has to offer.  Resources here my be ones that are not in print and found on library shelves.
Annotated Web Resources  - from the Kentucky LMS Reference Desk. 
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Teachers  Find educators' guides, lesson plans, workshops, in-services and other resources.  
AskERIC Educator's Reference Desk - New in 2004 this educator's on-line allows you access the 2000+ lesson plans, 3000+ links to online education information, and 200+ question archive responses.

 

ASSESSMENT TOOLS

Rubric Generator - Make grading rubrics by filling out a simple form.
Customizable Rubrics - Choose a subject, a category under the subject, use the drop down menu to select a rating scale and then each category in the rubric, make a printable rubric and print.
Checklists - Click on "PBL Project Checklists", then select the level and subject area.  Use the drop down menus to create your checklist.
Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators provides links to rubric information.
From Innovation Designs for Education find a downloadable PDF file  which serves as a ready-made rubric providing assessment criteria to measure levels of performance for a project-based task.  The curriculum area is up to you, but evaluation criteria include task authenticity, content and presentation, creativity, and level of student interest.

- This hot list organizes most of students' basic math needs into categories, then links the user to directly to WebPages that have a tool or game to meet that need.   
Mrs. Glosser's Math Goodies - included interactive math lessons
SuperKids Educational Tools - These resources are hyperlinked by math worksheets,   vocabulary builders,   hangman, logic games, and brain food.

American Folklore - Features folktales from different U.S. states. 
American Verse Project -   a collaborative project between the University of Michigan Humanities Text Initiative (HTI) and the University of Michigan Press to assemble an electronic archive of volumes of American poetry prior to 1920.

- Organized by Reference, Verse, Fiction and Non-fiction, this site is billed as one with "Great Books Online"
Classic Works - a hit list of sites to download full text classics. 
Hiyah.com
- This site features classic children's stories.  Students may listen and read along on the screen.  Find games and puzzles at this site also.
International Children's Digital Library - Read over 400 books children's books from throughout the world online for free.  
Predictable Pattern Books - a listing from the Ohio Literacy Resource Center
Poetry Archives  The archive, sponsored by the University of North Carolina Press and the North Carolina Arts Council,  will be making available selected poems from a number of contemporary poets.
Rebus Rhymes - Find a large collection of Nursery Rhymes.
Teen Titles - From the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) find links to titles for teen readers.

American Museum of Natural History -  See this museum and some of exhibits virtually.

- a multimedia site with animated and narrated educational animations in science, heath, and technology.
How Stuff Works

Insectclopedia - Find information categorized by species.
National Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian
The Space Place - a NASA program where kids learn about space science and technology.  Teacher materials available
The Science Spot - To locate  good science websites for students, click on "the Reference Desk".  Then scroll down to the Kidzone and click on it.   You can then choose a science subject (biology, chemistry, etc.) and  a list of web sites will appear.
eXZOOberance - included at this site Virtual Zoo, Animal Photo Gallery, Animal News,  Animal Games, Animal Posters and Prints, Animal Web Cams, Articles and Research, Animal Quotes, as well as, a  Zoo and Aquarium Directory.
The Virtual Cave - Learn about Solution Caves, Lava Tube Caves, Sea Caves, and Erosional Caves. Students can also investigate caves near their homes with links in the U.S. Show Cave Directory.

American Memory -  historical collections for the National Digital Library.  This primary source for documents in American history contains information documents for all content areas.
America's Story from America's Library - To mark its 200th anniversary, the Library of Congress is launching this user-friendly Web site for kids and families.
The CIA World Fact Book - profiles countries of the world.  Current version is 1999.
Civil War @ the Smithsonian - Digitized images cover slavery and abolition, the weapons and leaders of the war, and the life and culture of the times.
The Congress Link - resources include historical documents and photographs, narrative descriptions, historical notes, and a glossary.
Flag Detective - use this site to scan flags of the world by color and design.
Geography Label Me Printouts - print blank maps
History Central - a variety of topics both World and United States
The David Rumsey Historical Map Collection contains to date over 6,400 maps online and focuses on rare 18th and 19th century
Portals of the World - Web resources selected by Library of Congress subject experts
Presidents of the United States - a comprehensive information source about all the presidents as well as election information U.S. Congress ( Thomas legislative information on the internet) includes full text of all House and Senate Bills, searchable by keyword and bill number; how laws are made, House and Senate gophers, and more.
U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum
Women in Kentucky - Search by achievements/contributions,  or by historical time, or by regions of Kentucky. 

WRITING

The 5 Paragraph Essay - a useful resource as well as  tutorial for students and teachers.
MidLink  Magazine
- Find online publishing opportunities for students from ages 8-18 in this digital magazine by students
Writing with Writers -From Scholastics find links to different types of writing: Biography, Journal, Mystery and many more.  Each type of writing is activity based through the incite of a well known author.
