OPENING MEETING for the 2004-2005 School Year
This annual orientation meeting will be held on Friday July 30th from 8:00 - 12:00 at the new LTMS Library; 350 North Limestone.  Mark your calendars to attend.  We will introduce new personnel to the school library at that time.  We also, will have more information about how Media Services will be able to handle services to schools with a library resource position cut.  Nancy has been asking for your input and Mary Lou and Barby plan to continue working to provide the most important services to you.

Two Libraries Receive 3M Security Systems in April 2004
3M in partnership with AASL have awarded grant money to (Emily Damron) Winburn Middle Library and (Robin Fannin) Crawford Middle Library.  The Salute to Schools program provides 3M detection system to help middle and high school library media centers with limited resources reduce the loss of valuable library materials. The 100 recipients of this year’s program will receive up to two detection systems for the entrance/exit of their media centers, and a supply of Tattle-Tape security strips from 3M for marking printed material (i.e., books) -- a package with an average value of about $15,000.

PROCESSING NEWS
As of April 29, 2004, there are still about 70 purchase orders which have still not come into Media Services for processing.  These will be top priority for the 4 Media Technicians who work on the database.  As there is lag in the new materials' arrivals, they will process the things you send from your school in the order of their arrival.  The boxes you have sent from your school, presently date back to a late January arrival time.  Thank you for remembering that you must check the UNION for the record and if it is there, you are to do the processing of the book or AV locally and not send it to Media Services for processing.

OFFICIAL EXTENDED TIME DATES
2nd-4th, 7th-11th, 14th-15th - Official Extended Time Dates for regular calendar schools
11th,14th-18th, 21st-24th - Official Extended Time Dates for alternative calendar schools
     Find Extended Time Tasks here.

PROCESSING for your school will be suspended
Processing and adding MARCs/copies to your school database will be suspended for the regular school calendar schools beginning June 1 until such time as you have submitted your report.  Please do not submit your report on-line prior to June 1 because you may not be counting all items added to your database this year.  For the alternative calendar schools processing will be suspended beginning June 10 until the online report has been submitted.

FOLLETT UPGRADE to be done by LMS
As per directions from Jaye Baesler:
Follett 6.0 is now available and ready for upgrade at each school. The service pack for CircPlus/CatPlus has been downloaded to the Follett folder on each library server. The upgrade can be done from your library workstation, at a time when all Follett modules are closed (including OPAC). It does NOT need to be done during your shutdown window.

Directions for the upgrade are below. It should take about 5 minutes. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

To upgrade Follett CircPlus/CatPlus to 6.0:
1. Browse to your Follett folder on the library server. Inside you will find  folder 6.0 Update
2.  Open 6.0 Update and double-click on ServicePack600
3.  Click Next
4.  At the "Welcome to Follett Software Corp..... service pack 600...." window, click Next.
5.  At the "License Agreement" window, click Yes.
6.  At the "Choose Destination Location" window, the default will point to the c:. Click Browse and browse to the CC40 folder on your library server. (If you have a mapped drive on your machine, it will only involve a couple of steps to find CC40. If you do not have a mapped drive, you will need to browse through Network Neighborhood, or My Network Places.) Most paths will be \\yourlibraryserver\follett. Click Okay.
7.  The message "You are about to update the FSC applications in ......." will pop up. Verify the location of the CC40 folder and if correct, click Yes.
8.  "Service Pack 6.00 for CircPlus/CatPlus Setup is complete." At this message, click Finish.
9.  Click Okay.  (If you are one of the very few schools that also has the Follett applications installed on your hard drive (right now, only Crawford comes to mind), you will have to run the update again with the Follett folder on your hard drive as the destination.)
10.  Email Barby and tell her the upgrade is complete! If you encountered problems, please email me or your STC.
