Media Services Website is new
     *  Media Services' website has a new look.  The change includes an easier menu for navigation from any page within the website.  The menu is located on the left side of each page.  A sample is provided to show you how to find the area that has ordering information such as vendors and how to fill out a MUNIS PO.

Processing News
     *  Concerning the items you send to Media Services for processing, we have found it necessary to ask that you heed the following guidelines.

1.  Check all materials in the union to see if you can save a record down to your local database and then add your own barcode and spine label.
2.  If the MARCs are  not in the UNION, then send items on to Media Services for processing. BE SURE and put a note on the box that says you have checked for the MARC in the UNION before sending contents to Media Services.
3.  Send only new materials for initial processing.  If it is a set of materials make sure it is complete.
4.  Send a list of the titles under separate cover that you are sending to be processed and if it is a set, list the titles that are in that set.

2004 McConnell Literature Conference

The 2004 McConnell Literature Conference will be held February 27-28 at the Marriott (Griffin Gate resort) in Lexington. Featured speakers will be Laurie Halse Anderson, author of YA novels, such as Speak (1999), a National Book Award finalist and Printz honor book, and Catalyst (2002), as well as books for younger children, and illustrator Betsy Lewin, probably best known for her 2001 Caldecott honor book, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
The program also includes sessions on a variety of topics that concern those interested in promoting or creating children's literature. These sessions usually include Newbery and Caldecott discussions led by the graduate students in the critical analysis of children's literature class.  Congratulations to Paula Setser, Deep Springs LMS for her part in the program.  The Traveling Collection of the McConnell Center is also made available to conference attendees in order that they might examine new books and more wisely spend their book budgets.  A brochure of the conference with a registration is now available. Please note that you can not register electronically; you must print out this registration form and send it in with your payment.

Award Winning Books

*   In January of each year, at the midwinter meeting of ALA, the current year's book awards are announced. Visit http://www.ala.org/ala/alsc/awardsscholarships/literaryawds/literaryrelated.htm to read a listing of all of the 2004 winners.  Ursula K. LeGuin is the recipient of this year's Margaret A. Edwards Award honoring her lifetime contribution to young adult readers.

 Joseph Beth as a vendor
     *   For the period of January 28,2004 through January 27, 2005, Joseph Beth Booksellers will give a 10% discount on trade books, trade paperbacks, professional reference and related items.  The discount provided by this bid (# 57-03)  makes purchasing those need-to-have-NOW items more palatable.  Teachers in your building will especially like to know this information.  Our library book vendors and prebound book vendors will give a better price and teacher requests may be ordered from them, but Joseph Beth will supply more quickly.  Do remember if classroom books are ordered from the vendors which traditionally supply library books, the vendor needs to know that the order is NOT for the library and does not require barcodes and MARC records.
