Your Author Card will contain 5 items:
Front of the card:
- A picture of the author
- Biographical information
 | Name |
 | Birth and death dates |
 | Birth and death places |
 | Hometown |
 | Current Residence |
 | What or Who influenced their writing |
A booklist of 6-10 of the author's works with their lexiles
Back of the card:
- Description of the book that you read
- Reaction to the book or the author
Biographical
Information
 | Use the worksheet/organizer your teacher has given you when
gathering information on your author. It will help you to keep
it organized so you will be sure to gather all the information you
need for your card. |
 | Visit these sites to gather the information:

Starting the card
 | Right click on the template link above |
 | Choose Save Target As |
 | In the save in box, you should see My Documents |
 | Name the file by your initials and your author's name (i.e. Jane
Smith is doing a card for Katherine Paterson so her file is JS
Paterson.) |
 | Click Save |
Picture
 | When you find a picture of your author on one of these sites, follow
the directions below to save the picture:
 | Right click on the picture you want to use. |
 | Choose Save Picture As |
 | Insert the Floppy disk into the A: drive on your computer |
 | In the Save In box, be sure to choose the 3 1/2 Floppy A: drive |
 | Name the file with your initials and your author's name (i.e.,
if you are John Doe studying about Avi you would name it jdavi). |
 | Click Save |

 | To insert this picture onto your author card, follow these
directions:
 | Select Insert from the menu bar |
 | Choose Picture |
 | Choose From File |
 | In the Insert Picture window that opens, click on the Look In
box at the top and find 3 1/2 in Floppy A: |
 | Find the picture file that you have saved and highlight it |
 | Click Insert |

Biographical Info, Booklist, Description and Reaction
 | All of the above will be entered as text on your author card |
 | To put text on the card in Publisher, you will need to create a text
box for each area where you want to put text. |
 | If you want to put something in two columns you would create two
text boxes that are side by side. |
Put it all together
 | Make sure that you have included all 5 elements on the card and then look at the Evaluation
on the Write On! home page. Have you done everything you need to do in order to make the
grade you want? |
 | Once you are sure it is the best you can do, print out the card. |
 | Cut it out following the directions on the card and give it to your
teacher to laminate. |
