Process for creating the Author Booklet

Your Author Booklet will contain 5 items: 

  1. A narrative of the author's life
  2. A story map of the book you read (use the story map that your teacher has given you)
  3. Design a new cover for the book you have read
  4. A booklist of 6-10 of the author's works with their lexiles
  5. A picture of the author

Narrative

bulletUse the worksheet/organizer your teacher has given you when gathering information on your author.  It will help you to keep it organized so you will be better able to write your narrative.

Picture

bulletWhen you find a picture of your author on one of these sites, follow the directions below to save the picture:
bulletRight click on the picture you want to use.
bulletChoose Save Picture As
bulletInsert the Floppy disk into the A: drive on your computer
bulletIn the Save In box, be sure to choose the 3 1/2 Floppy A: drive
bulletName the file with your initials and your author's name (i.e., if you are John Doe studying about Avi you would name it jdavi).
bulletClick Save
bulletTo insert a picture into Word:
bulletOpen Word
bulletSelect Insert from the menu bar
bulletChoose Picture
bulletChoose From File
bulletIn the Insert Picture window that opens, click on the Look In box at the top and find 3 1/2 in Floppy A:
bulletFind the picture file that you have saved and highlight it
bulletClick Insert
bulletIf you want to type beside that picture do this:
bulletRight click on the picture
bulletChoose Format Picture
bulletClick on the Layout tab at the top of this window
bulletChoose Square 
bulletClick OK
bulletNow when you click in the white space beside the picture you can type any text in.  You may also now move the picture around on the page and the text will automatically wrap around it.

Booklist

bulletUse the booklist that you found at the beginning when you looked up the lexiles of the books.  Type that booklist in word.  Remember to include the lexiles for each book.  If you need to do it again, go back to Write On! home and see #2 under the Process.

Story Map

bulletNow fill in the story map your teacher has given you for the book you read.

Book Cover

bulletDesign a new book cover for the book you read.

Put it all together

bulletPut everything together in a booklet and then look at the Evaluation on the Write On! home page.  Make sure that you have done everything you need to do in order to make the grade you want.
