A webquest for Ms. Cockerham's ESL students at Leestown.

Introduction

"What would you like to do with your life?"  That is a question you will hear more and more as you go through middle school and high school.  That decision will be one of the most important decisions you will ever face.  It is a good idea to have some knowledge of all the options that are available to you so that you can make the right choice.  That is what this webquest is all about.

Task

You have been studying different careers in your class.  Now you will choose one of those careers and find information about that career.  You will present this information to the  class.  Your presentation can use PowerPoint, a poster board, or other visual aids.

Process

Once you have chosen the career you are going to present, visit these sites to gather information on your career.

Here are some questions to think about as you are gathering your information.

  • What do these workers do?
  • What is the job like?
  • How many jobs are available right now?
  • What kind of training or education do you need to prepare for the job?
  • How much does the job pay to start out?
  • How much can you expect to earn once you've been on the job awhile?
  • What is a similar job that might interest you?
  • Did you read about anything else that was interesting?

Once you have the answers to your questions, put that information into a presentation of some sort so that you can tell your class what you have learned.

Conclusion

Now that you have explored the world of work, are you more familiar with what your options are?  Now is the time to start working on taking the classes you will need for the career you would like to have.  Good Luck!
