Introduction " I had in my mind to do something big and I did," said Simon Rodia.  You have read the fascinating story of how one man created a lasting work of art from what other people would have considered trash.  Now you will get to learn more about the man, the towers and their purpose today.
Task Visit each of the sites listed below learning as much as you can about how and why Simon Rodia created this masterpiece.  Learn about it's history and it's uses today.  Once you have completed the worksheet that goes with this webquest, you will then be asked to create a "tower" of your own using Hyperstudio.  Follow the guidelines for evaluation that are given below.

Process Complete the worksheet using the Resources above.

Then create your own 'tower' using Hyperstudio and clipart that is available in that program.  Follow these guidelines:

bulletMake at least 5 different 'structures' in your creation, each different but tied together with a consistent design.
bulletUse clipart of a variety of things that wouldn't normally go together in a structure that you would normally see.  
Teacher Tips Simon Rodia didn't have a plan when he constructed, but he did use trial and error.  He didn't just slap things on his structures, he looked to see if they looked right and he they didn't then he removed them.  You need to use the same process when creating your structure. 
Evaluation You will be evaluated on completion of worksheet, following guidelines for your 'tower', and written test over all information you have received on Watts Towers both on the internet and in your classroom reading.
