A webquest for Mr. Gnas' classes at Winburn
Created by Kim Overstreet, DTRT

Introduction

As an employee of the Warriorville Travel Agency, you have been directed to investigate one of the Kentucky State Parks.  You are to gather information to present to your fellow employees so that you will all have more familiarity with the various state parks around Kentucky.  The reason for this big push from your boss is that the agency has been offered $100 for every trip it books to one of the Kentucky State Parks and your boss plans on passing some of those profits on to you if you are one of the lucky ones that manages to sell your clients on a trip to one of these parks.  So do a good job.  Make it interesting.  Sell, sell, sell!

Task

You will gather your information and organize it into a PowerPoint presentation.  The information should include some of the following: background information, location, features, local attractions, facilities, etc.  Once you have created the presentation, you will have to present it to your boss and the other travel agents.  Good Luck!

Process

  1. Your boss will assign you a particular state park to investigate.

  2. Go to these sites and gather information on your state park.
    http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/parks/parkhome.htm
    http://www.kystateparks.com/history/ http://www.gorp.com/gorp/resource/statepark/ky.htm
    http://www.uky.edu/KentuckyAtlas/ky-parks.html
You can also use any brochures, pamphlets or books that you might find on your assigned park.

  3. As you are gathering information be sure to organize it.  (Keep in mind the categories mentioned above in the task.)  You may want to use this organizer to help you prepare for the presentation.

  4. Now you are ready to create your presentation.  Open PowerPoint and let's begin!

  5. Be sure to include a Title slide that tells which state park you are presenting and your name.

  6. You should have 5 slides with information on them and also one slide at the end that cites the resources (i.e. websites, brochures, books) you use.  To find out the proper way to cite a website source, look here.

  7. Once you have all the information on your slides, spend some time adding finishing touches to your presentation.  Remember the object is to impress the audience.  Keep these things in mind.
