Web Pages Tips
·
Keep design site consistent: backgrounds, colors, fonts
·
Avoid underlining as a means
of formatting text. (Conflicts with underlined hyperlinks.)
·
Remember regardless of the font you use, reader will view only in fonts he
has on his computer. Common fonts found on most Windows machines
are: Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New.
·
Always provide navigation
links on every page of your site. Include a link to your school web
page and to your district web page.
·
Avoid use of too many graphics. They slow downloading of site, and
some are distracting (especially continuous sounds).
·
Use animated gifs sparingly,
if at all.
·
Avoid using “Under Construction” pages. Only post or link to your
pages when they are complete and ready to be viewed.
·
Place a “Last Updated”
notation on every page. The FrontPage component for this is
available through Insert, Date and Time on the menu bar.
·
Include on default page: “Contents of this web site are intended
to be used for the enhancement of instruction only.” (Do not
copyright your pages. Our purpose is education, and we encourage
others to use our resources freely for educational purposes.)
·
Use the spell checker.
·
Verify all hyperlinks.
·
View your site in different
browsers.
·
Utilize tables for good placement.
·
If you use an image to
indicate ‘new’ information, make sure to remove it in at least 30
days.
·
Save, save, save in order to
avoid losing info.
