| 1) Uninstall any previous Real installation |
If you came here because your
Real installation is giving errors, an uninstall is advisable.
Later versions of Real have an "Uninstall" option in their menu
- use it. If not, go
to "Control Panel" (its location will depend on which version of
Windows you have) and choose "Add/Remove
Programs." Find Real in the list, and click "Uninstall." |
2) Download the installation file
Note: Windows95 users
will need to install RealPlayer 8
|
Right-click
the Real icon at left. Select "Save target as..."
In the window that pops up, browse to a location on your local drive and create
a directory for the file (suggestion: C:\Program Files\Real\). After
clicking "OK," the file should start to download. |
| 3) Begin the installation |
Using "My Computer" or
"Windows Explorer," double-click the installation file wherever
you placed it. When the install wizard comes up, click on the button next
to "Custom Install," followed by "Next." |
|
4) End User License Agreement
|
You can safely accept this. |
|
5) Connection Speed
|

Many elementary schools have 128 k lines ("Dual ISDN"), but not
all. Most middle and all high schools have T1's. You can adjust
this later if your video doesn't stream well. |
|
6) Program Location and
Desktop Settings
|

nYou do not need to change the "Install Location," but it's best
to UN-check everything under "Desktop Settings,"
since they just get in the way. |
|
7) Default Media Player
|

UN-check everything here. Failure to so do will cause
Real to take over all media playback - not a good idea, since Real
uses this for ads and other unwanted contact. |
|
8) RealPlayer Launches
|
After finishing the install, RealPlayer will launch. Don't worry
if it fails to connect to the Internet. Close the
browse window by clicking the x at the right corner, or clicking the globe
in the upper right hand corner. |
