Space Weather
http://www.spaceweather.com/
SpaceWeather.com is a site devoted to the interaction of the Sun with our planet. You'll find a near "real time" picture of the surface of the Sun, showing sunspot conditions at this time. Also, look for lots of information about Auroras and the "space weather" which causes them (great Aurora
pictures!). Recent ,or upcoming meteor showers usually make this page also.

High School Hub
http://www.highschoolhub.org/
High School Hub is " . . . a noncommercial portal
to excellent free online academic resources for high school students. It
features learning
activities, an ongoing teen poetry contest, a reference collection,
college information, and subject guides for English, mathematics, science,
social studies, world languages, arts, health, and technology." The
site is mostly a source of links to off-site resources, but they've done a
good job of sorting out the commercial chaff!

Teaching
the News
http://riverdeep.com/teaching_the_news/ttn_jump.jhtml
Teaching the News is a feature on Riverdeep's website. The stories
themselves are free, and include links to related sites and suggestions
for teaching. The full interactive instructional units require a browser
plug-in which Riverdeep sells, making this a commercial site - but the
stories themselves are worth it, and free.

Periodic
Table of Comic Books
http://www.uky.edu/Projects/Chemcomics/
The Periodic Table of Comic Books is the result of a
project at the University of Kentucky. The authors have put together a
collection of comic book references to most of the elements in the
periodic table. Click on the element and see what comics have used the
element as part of their story. Actual pages from comics are shown and
sometimes an explanation of the use of the element is given. Students who
get involved may also want to go to the Webelements site (http://www.webelements.com/)
which is a very good “real” periodic table from Sheffield,
England. Here they’ll find more than they ever wanted to know about each
element. The Webelements site is accessible from the Comics site.
