(April 4) This virtual book club can have as many members as there are students in Fayette County Schools.  Students become members when they have a book review or book report posted on the site.  Any teacher can submit student’s writing about a book he or she has read, via e-mail to bookclub@fayette.k12.ky.us.  They will then be included in the LBC Membership Roster below.  Presently, our student membership ranges in age from 6 to 16.  Approximately 275 students have read and written about 235 different titles this year to produce over 400 total published book reports and book reviews.  It is not surprising that J.K. Rowling, Beverly Cleary, and R. L. Stine are the most popular authors to read and write about.  Many authors and titles have more than one student sharing his or her opinions.  It is interesting to see what two students from different school have to say about The Wish Giver.  It is also interesting to note that one is a book report written to demonstrate having read the book and one is a book review written to inform and persuade readers.

Special recognition goes to Sheila DeVary’s students from Crawford Middle for submitting the first examples of Book Reviews.  These writing pieces can be used as transactive writing portfolio pieces. We are very proud of the four students in Bill McMakin’s classroom at Picadome who read and wrote 5 or more book reports for the LBC.  These were the first students to receive a free book because of the quantity of submissions posted.  The most book reports from one school have come from Cardinal Valley with a total of 95 books read and shared.

The Literary Book Club continues to be a vehicle to motivate students to keep on reading and writing!!  We extend a thank you to all the students and staffs that have helped us flourish with over 400 reports and reviews.  Additionally, the threaded discussion section title Online Book Talks has given many more children an avenue to share opinions about books in an informal atmosphere. Remember to share opinions about FANTASY from now until the end of this school year!
