An STLP Speaks Out
By Evan Gray, 8th grade
Southern Middle School
I have been in STLP for two years now. I have learned amazing and resourceful things. This year I was asked to help design an art page for our school's web site. At first I was unsure how to build the page, so, Mrs. Kramer, our STLP advisor showed me how. She taught me FP2000. It got me thinking of creative ways to display our student's artwork on our site. I thought I would take pictures of the student's work with a digital camera, import them into the web page and create thumbnails. When the thumbnail picture was clicked on, a full size image would open. Two of the art students won 1st place at the KTLC in Louisville. I was proud that I have their work displayed on my web page.
When I am in school, I get asked to go into classrooms to help with a computer problem. It may be as simple as having to clean out the dust from the inside of the machine, or something more complicated like a network problem. I really enjoy being called to help with problems, it is like having a job fixing computers. Other students often mistake me for a nerd, but I do not think of myself that way because I know I do a good job, have lots of friends in and out of STLP and really enjoy working with computers and learning new technology.
