| IMMEX Problem Development News:
Working together, our IMMEX teachers and
students have now completed a total of 13 problems sets.
These include:
Age is Everything (Chemistry
students 11,12) Our archeological dig has been
compromised. Someone is trying to get the government to
remove funding. Someone has planted phony artifacts in our
dig. We must, using radioactive dating techniques, figure
out how old items are in a newly discovered archeological
dig. They will try to decide which of the items are
originals and belong in the dig, and which ones were
planted. Authors: Jason Swango and Julie Helton.
Lift-Me-Up (Physics 9-12 grades)
Design a ski lift power system. Determine the change in
energy (gravitational potential, kinetic and dissipated by
friction) when skiers are raised from the bottom of the
mountain to the top of the mountain. Calculate the time
for this change in energy and solve for Power. Remember to
account for efficiencies. Authors: Scot Gill, Karen Gill,
Erica Snipes, Joey Bose.
Something's Fishy (Science 6-8)
The fish in Lake Morton are abruptly dying. The student's
job is to pin-point the cause of death and the source of
pollution if any. Using water chemistry and other factors
determine what has changed in the lake over the past ten
years. Authors: Kevin Crump, Maggie Noger, and Mike
Weaver.
Fossil Fury (Earth Science 6-8)
Use clues to find out who stole a fossil and identify the
scientific name of the stolen fossil. Authors: Dianne
Murphy, Kelsey Springwater, Kirby Sowder.
