UCLA has launched the following 2 FCPS IMMEX problem onto the World Wide Web. Teachers may go to www.immex.ucla.edu and begin using them with their students.

Scot Gill with his STLP crewDaredevil Train Jump (Designed by teachers Karen and Scot Gill along with their STLP students from HCHS and TCHS. Content: HS Physics). In this problem, students take on the role of stuntmen for the feature film “The Dukes of Hazard Ride Again.” Their task? Jumping over the flatbed cars in a moving train. As the prologue states, “ You pull your Dodge Charger up to the train tracks and mark a spot on the track directly under the center of your front bumper. You must figure out how far from the spot to place the train-triggered switch. The clock is running, get going…”

Jason Swango, with UCLA's Joycelin Palacio-CayetanoArdana Gas Laws (Designed by Jason Swango, PLD. Content: HS Chemistry). This problem will resonate with Star Trek fans as students pose as the chief science officer for the USS Enterprise. Students will have to interpret information to construct Ardena’s ideal gas law as well as calculate its universal gas constant. Then they will use their analysis to determine whether the planet is appropriate for colonization.

The IMMEX team has been hard at work and currently has 7 additional problem sets on the UCLA test server. These problems will be available to all very soon. We are very interested in receiving feedback from any teachers who try out our problems sets. E-mail Lucinda Sanders at lsanders@fayette.k12.ky.us.
