The STLP at Winburn was recently honored as
a Gold STLP School for the second year in a row. The STLP students
decided to take on the
project
of revitalizing the Kentucky TeleLinking Network (KTLN). Winburn
sponsored many conferences this year, and revived their Kentucky
Author’s Series Conferences for the KTLN network. They were honored to
have sponsored video conferences by Richard Taylor, former Kentucky Poet
Laureate; Joe Survant, the present Poet Laureate; and Frank X Walker,
poet and author. The Winburn STLP run all the equipment.
They participated in 22 conferences last year, and 11 conferences this
year.
You are invited to bring your students to Winburn to participate
in a conference. Contact Ed
Hughes for more information.

On April 22, 2004, STLP went
on a field trip to Francis Screen Printing and Design. We toured the
factory guided by Mr. Kurt Francis. He showed us the techniques used to
print designs on shirts.

He showed us some of the
different designs that he had made in the past. Mr. Francis also showed
us how hard his job was by letting two volunteers come up and try
printing designs on the shirts. When he was done with the shirts, Mr.
Francis gave them to us as souvenirs. I think that everyone had a
splendid time on the trip. We want to thank Mr. Francis for everything
he has done.

Stonewall’s
STL’s, Taylor and Maggie, are busy creating business cards for
teachers. They used MS Publisher to fashion the card and copy the
image to the clipboard. Next, they selected an MS Word business card
template, copied the image into each cell, and printed them on the
colored printer. The business cards are just one of many projects
this year’s STL’s have completed.

Other projects included backpack tags, teacher
stationery, and labels. Each product will
include instructions for the teachers to follow so they may create their
own items.
