One of the unfortunate outcomes of budget cuts next year will be the loss of Carol Moffett, our district's Assistive Technology Specialist. Carol has worked hard with all the special education professionals, school technology coordinators, technology resource teachers, and others. The Technology Department and the Special Education Department are working together on ways to provide AT services for students. There are lots of pieces to this puzzle. One piece is having technology resource teachers provide some basic assistance to schools. In August, all the TRTs will receive training on how to use Mimio with special needs students. More training will follow and other specialized services will be contracted out.

Another piece of the puzzle is the administrative part. Next year when special educators have needs or questions concerning assistive use of software or hardware, those inquiries should be directed to each school's special education facilitator. If the facilitator is not able to help, they will contact one of the following special education administrators:

  • Peggy Blanton-Director of Special Education
  • Beverly Henderson--High School Special Education Administrator
  • Sherri Williams-Middle School Special Education Administrator
  • Anne Leaumont-Elementary School Special Education Administrator
  • Michael Muncy-Elementary School Special Education Administrator

We'll miss Carol and we wish her the best!
