Tates Creek High School Basketball Goes
High-Tech
The Tates Creek High School STLP students are attending Commodore
basketball games...and bringing along a digital video camera. The
students get free access to the game and even ride the team bus to some
away games. During game play, the students shoot footage on 8 mm digital
tapes. Afterwards, the video footage is transferred via a FireWire
connection to a PC.
With the footage on a hard drive, the students can easily create a DVD
for each game. This process includes breaking the game into manageable
chapters, creating a menu system and ultimately burning a disc. The
menus are all full motion and the resulting DVD is easy to navigate and
looks quite professional.
Coach Covington uses these DVDs with his team in practice. With the
games on DVD, storage is much easier, access to particular points of
interest within the game much faster and, of course, there is never a
need to rewind. Blank DVDs are cheaper than 8 mm digital tapes and much
more useful to the team.

Breckinridge & Henry Clay STLP Team
Up!
Breckinridge
Elementary School’s STLP group teamed up with Henry Clay to install
memory on all classroom computers at Breckinridge. This was no small
task! The groups worked on over 50 computers during our time
together.

The students thoroughly enjoyed working with the high
school kids. In fact, they want them to attend every meeting now! A
special thanks also goes to Henry Clay for donating the memory. The
whole school appreciates it!

Glendover Students

The Glendover STLP Tech Squad has been keeping
busy this year! On Monday afternoons, members of the squad visit
classrooms to take care of the computers. Tech Squad members have been
trained in properly cleaning the computers and their peripheral devices.
This spring, Tech Squad members will be trained in adding memory,
installing print cartridges, defragmenting
and scanning hard drives. This has been a win-win situation at
Glendover—the teachers are pleased to have their computers clean and
running better, and the Tech Squad is
pleased to provide this service.

Whitmer, STLP Coordinator for Fayette County Public Schools, or visit the
