Ransom Holbrook,
Technology Resource Teacher and Literacy Specialist
This time last year, Ransom was a valued
technology specialist staff member with Letcher County Schools. But
the promise of long hours and hard work in Fayette County was too much to pass
up!
Ransom was born in Jenkins, Kentucky, and raised
in Letcher County, graduating from Whitesburg High School in 1977.
He began his higher education studies at Morehead State University, receiving
a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1981, followed by a Masters in
1982. From there he continued his studies at the University of
Kentucky, also studying computer science at Eastern Kentucky
University. He subsequently received a Rank 1 in Administration from
Union College. A secondary school band director with 16 years
experience, Mr. Holbrook moved into the position of district
technology resource teacher for Letcher County in 1999. He joined the
staff in Fayette County this year.
Ransom has no shortage of things to do in his spare time. In
addition to a stint of 12 years as an officer in the Army Reserves,
he is an avid participant in the sport of Land Speed Racing, where
he holds two national automobile records in his class for the
Standing Mile, and is working on another national record for the
motorcycle. In the past week he received word he had won the Castrol
Syntec National Dyno Contest for 6 cylinder cars, awarded for his
work building the engine for his Taurus SHO race car.
Mr. Holbrook has recently purchased a home in
Georgetown, but returns regularly to visit Letcher County.

Mike
Riley, Senior Financial Systems Analyst
The MUNIS support staff enjoys some of the more
experienced and dedicated members of the Office of Educational
Technology. Mike Riley, that department's senior analyst, has been
with Fayette County since 1993, joining the tech office after 19
years as a computer operator, programmer, and analyst for Kentucky
Finance Company. His responsibilities in Fayette County include
analyzing and maintaining the current MUNIS financial database, and
creating/maintaining programs for the financial and business
applications in the district.
Mike and Gloria, his wife of 29 years, have three
children - daughter Becky works in the Fayette County financial
office, daughter Tammy is a preschool teacher for a private school,
and son Michael is currently at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he is
undergoing basic training for the Army National Guard. Mr.
Riley was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in Lexington
where he attended Johnson and Deep Springs Elementary schools, Bryan
Station Junior High, and graduating from Bryan Station High School.
He maintains that connection by serving as the assistant baseball
coach at his alma matter. Mike has also attended Lexington Community
College, and the University of Kentucky. When he's not attending to
his professional responsibilities, he enjoys golfing and cheering on
the Kentucky Wildcats!
