Live Announcements at Southern Middle School

"Every morning an hour before school, when many people haven’t even arrived at school, the Southern Middle School Storm Tracker News team is hard at work. Under the supervision of Media Specialist Debbie Kiser, these students produce a first-rate news show reporting on all sorts of events that happen everyday throughout the school. The show features stories on sporting events, classroom projects, or even the occasional pet that shows up. Often, special guests appear on Southern’s news show like Interim Superintendent, Duane Tennant and Director of Middle Schools, Diane Woods. Here is your chance to meet the team and learn what they do." - Kim Overstreet

Jonathan Jonathan: My job is to post announcements on our daily PowerPoint. It is on the TV for every classroom during the day. This keeps the students informed. The Digital Photographers give me pictures to put on the PowerPoint. Everyday I update the information.
Hi, I'm a special reporter. I go out in the school with a cameraperson and find stuff to report on. I can use anything I find for the news. Reports we have done include school events, reports/projects classes have done, and much more.
Katrina Hello! My name is Katrina. I work for Storm Tracker news in Southern Middle School. I love my job as an anchor. I think I relate to this job the most because my mother says I'm an actress.
Hi my name is Matthew and I helped on Storm Tracker news and I am the one of the camerapersons for the news. A cameraperson would tape the news and it would begin showing during one of the fronts. [Editor's note: 'Fronts' refer to how students are released into the building before school begins.] Matthew
Megan I am Megan, and I work on Storm Tracker News. I have many jobs. One job I have is Special Reporter. This is why people around Southern Middle have such an information-filled newscast. Another job I have is videographer. This is when I tape the news. My last job is fill-in anchor. Not all anchors are always here… so if they are sick or have a previous engagement… I am there.
Nathan: My job on the Storm Tracker News is special reporter camera. My job is to film the reports around the school and film the reporters. My job is to help find reporters too. Nathan
Paul Paul: Hi! In Storm Tracker News I'm a digital photographer, I go around the school and take pictures of cool and important stuff. Then I display them on the daily announcements. I really enjoy my job at S.T. News. My job is important because we need to inform people on what's going on around school. So that is my job at Storm Tracker News.
Stephanie: My job is an anchor that is where I am on TV. And I'm with somebody. I have to tell a lot of stuff and important stuff like I'm just saying this, aliens are invading Stephanie
Evan Evan: I am a music news reporter for SMS. I get info on various bands for the Band Of The Week segment. We have done a few rock bands already. Among these are RAMMSTEIN and SUM 41. In the future, we will have segments like sound track of the week, CD of the week, etc....
Heather: I am a office manager and I turn on all computers and I also check out books to people and check in books I put books up where they belong and put chairs back where they belong Heather
Olivia Hi, my name is Olivia! My job is a Special Reporter! I go around the school and find different things that have been done and made! My job can be also very very fun. This quote was made possible by: Olivia. Your favorite special reporter!
Brian: Hi I'm a sentry. I let crewmembers, teachers, and kids that have other group activities throughout the rest of the school in the building. At 8:03 if people in the crew are late to school they stay outside till school begins. For the people that are absent I take their jobs for the day. Plus if people are late 3 times they are off the news. Brian
Chris Hello my name is Chris. My job is videographer and Music News. When we do Music News, Matt takes over my camera job. Every week for Music News we do a Band of the Week unless we have a special segment. Music News airs every Friday. My videographer job is stressful but fun. I enjoy being on the news because I get to interact with other people
Hi, my name is Holly. I am a special reporter. I go around finding special reports in the school. Sometimes it's hard to find reports because we get here at 8 a.m. and school doesn't start until 9. That means not many students are here at 8. Special reports are very important because they make our news more interesting. Holly
Steven L. Hello, my name is Steven L. I am a Tech Head, which means I am the Technical Support (geek) for Storm Tracker News. Any time there are technical problems, I beam myself down and fix all the problems. I know how to use some programming languages.
I am the Music Technician. I have to find music to use and have it cued up and ready to go. Sometimes I have to help the videographer.
Alex Alex: My job as digital photographer is to search the school for good pictures and give them to the Jonathan so he can put them on the announcements. To be a digital photographer is not very difficult. You just need a steady hand and you really need to know how to push a button. I also help Evan make new slides based on the pictures I have taken. That’s what I do as digital photographer.
