Linlee Elementary STLP Website is up and running!

The STLP students at Linlee Elementary are very eager to learn and do new things when it comes to technology. With such a large STLP group, the coordinator chose some students to work with their TRT on their webpage. They started with a page listing the STLP goals, something every STLP student should know and gave examples as to how they had covered these goals. They then took digital pictures of the school and created an online museum to go on their webpage. Another student worked on the STLP Activities page where she added pictures of the students completing some of their activities. Mrs. Hickland, the STLP coordinator, took a small group of students to UK to see how to build a computer. The students took the digital camera and were able to create a page showing what they had learned while at UK. One student assignment was to type a paragraph about why they decided to join STLP. Students then copied and pasted those ideas onto another webpage for all to view. The students learned how to change the background, change the font size, type and color, apply themes, create hyperlinks, create bookmarks and add shared borders. The students worked very hard on their webpage this year and hope to add more to it next year.

Cassidy Elementary STLP Students Honor Our Servicemen/Servicewomen AbroadUnited States flag blowing in the breeze.

STLP has designed a webpage and bulletin board that honors servicemen/women who have Cassidy connections that have been deployed to the Middle East. In addition each service person has been adopted by a class. That class has written and/or sent packages to their "adoptee". The servicemen are parents of students, former Cassidy students, or relatives of the staff. Several classes have invited family members of the servicemen to come and tell them about their service person.

Julius Marks Elementary STLP assist in parent trainingsJulius Marks Elementary STLP student assisting a parent during a free computer training.

Three times a year, Julius Marks offers free computer classes for any interested parents. The STLP students study what is going to be taught in the class to make sure they are well prepared. During the class they provide individual assistance for the parents.  The Student Julius Marks Elementary STLP student assisting a parent during a free computer training.Technology Leadership Program coordinator teaches the class. The students are assigned a parent or two to work with. The parents have been very responsive to the student's help and this year's group has done a great job!

Bryan Station Middle STLP expand their horizons

STLP students at Bryan Station Middle have been busy this year expanding their projects and activities.  A few of these projects and activities are highlighted below.

Picture of a fort.Mr. Alan Ford, Youth Service Center Coordinator, worked with us this year on the Bryan Station Fort Project. Students in our building were not aware of the history surrounding our school. This group researched information about the battle between the frontiersman and the Indians. This group also worked with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Students visited the site where the fort stood. Students produced a PowerPoint presentation of their findings. They gave presentations to several classes at BSTMS and at the regional STLP conference in December. These students earned blue ribbons at the conference.

Mrs. Sherri Heise, coordinator, worked with students this year on an entrepreneur project. Students started their own business producing business cards for teachers in the building. Students managed, manufactured, and promoted these items for the staff. Teachers were thrilled to get professional business cards for a small price. This project started this year and continues to flourish.

STLP members continued work on the morning announcement show for theTV news anchorman. building. Students improved the show this year by adding a switch box to convert computer images to the closed circuit TV. We have added the weather to our show. Students continue the quest for a professional news show.

Recently, STLP students have been working with our counseling department to produce our own information video about BSTMS. This video will be used during Magnet Night and when counselors visit schools. Students are learning storyboards, writing scripts, and camera special effects. Students will also learn how to use Pinnacle Software to edit the video.
