Long Description:

Since this software runs off a CD, it truly provides direction for math teachers who have access to only ONE computer. The teacher uses a whole class CD to model how the CD works, and then students can work through the mystery CD individually or in cooperative groups. Students enjoy interacting with unique characters in unusual settings to sovle problems and work on math concepts. The program also generates reports so that teachers are aware of each student's progress and areas of difficulty. The software is VERY user friendly, AND it helps teachers to diffentiate their instruction.

ISTE Standards:

Standard 3--Technology productivity tools Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. Standard 6--Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools Students use technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions.

Research:

I have used Tom Snyder software in several classrooms at my school. Both teachers and students like the interactive nature or the software and have performed better on tests after using the software. Additionally, behavior problems have been reduced. Many of the teachers liked being able to move about the room to monitor and assist students, rather than having to be in control of everything. Students frequently ask, When can we do this again?
