Long Description:

Accelerated Math is a program that allows students to learn math at their own pace and to actually track their own progress through the integrated database. Students can print homework pages and work on them while away from a computer. When they return to the class they can enter the answers and score the assignments. Teachers can log in and track individual students' progress. This research takes a slice from the 6th grade population at Crawford Middle School and compares their progress though the year while using Accelerated Math. Various classes used the application at various levels so there is a range of data to be compared. If you are interested in implementing Accelerated Math, this research may be of interest to you.

ISTE Standards:

All Students: # 3 Technology productivity tools Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. Grades 6-8 #4 Use content-specific tools, software, and simulations (e.g., environmental probes, graphing calculators, exploratory environments, Web tools) to support learning and research. (3, 5)

Research:

Students took a STAR Math test at the beginning of the year as a means of collecting the baseline data. They re-take the test January 2004 and will take it again at the end of the year. I have used these scores, along with information about who has used Accelerated Math at what levels to determine the effectiveness of the application.
